Who participates in Accelerated Reader? Most English classes participate. Ask your teacher if you are expected to participate.
What is AR? It is a program that allows students to pick their choice of a book that they may read during SSR (sustained silent reading, week days except Wednesday from 10:19- 10:39 AM) or at home for thirty minutes. The book is selected from whatever reading-level he/she is designated. When the student finishes a book, he/she takes a quiz to earn his/her goal points designated by the teacher based on the student's reading-level.
When do I read my AR book? Students may read their books during SSR, at home, or any other place as leisure.
When do I need to have met my goal? The goal must be met generally two days before the end of each quarter. Ask your teacher.
Where do I take a quiz? At a library computer or in the classroom, if available.
Why do I participate in AR? AR has shown impressive increases in students' reading levels. By starting where students have reading comprehension, the students then may bridge the gap between their reading range and their grade reading level.
Can I exit out? Talk to your teacher and librarian. In some cases when a goal is met on time and the reading level is above that of the student's grade level, the student will be allowed to "exit" the program.
How do I complete a reading log? See links below to view a general reading log.
