A-G Classes

A through G Classes are the classes that are required for entrance to the University of California and California State University system.  You must have all of these classes to meet the minimum admissions requirements for all U.C. and C.S.U. campuses.  Some private and out of state schools will require additional courses.  Minimum GPA required:  for U.C. it is 3.0 and for C.S.U. it is 2.0.  You must have a grade of 'C' or higher in each of these required courses.  In addition to these requirements, all U.C. and CSU applicants must take the SAT I or the ACT.
For UC admissions students must complete 15 UC required ("a-g") courses, with 11 completed by the end of the 11th grade. 

Required "A-G" Courses* (CSU and UC)

 

a.  History/Social Science:  2 years required ( World & U.S.)

b.  English:  4 years required

c.  Mathematics:  3 years required (4 recommended, UC)

d.  Laboratory Science:  2 years required (3 recommended, UC)

e.  Language Other Than English:  2 years required (3 recommended, UC)

f.  Visual and Performing Arts (VPA):  1 year required

g.  College-Preparatory Electives:  1 year required

 

Other factors considered in the admissions process are grade point average (GPA), SAT/ACT scores, the overall rigor of the high school course of study, extracurricular activities, and personal circumstances.  Students and parents are strongly encouraged to visit www.calstate.edu and/or www.universityofcalifornia.edu for more detailed information.
