It’s not what you have. It’s not how you look. It’s not who you know. What matters the most is your character. It will decide the path of your life, the success of our community, and what kind of person you are. Your Character Counts!
This year Independence High School and Yosemite High School along with all schools in MUHSD will be focusing on six core character values: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. These are the “Six Pillars of Character” and they are helpful as we make decisions in our daily lives.
One of the traits we will focus on in October and April is Respect. A person of character values all persons, lives by the Golden Rule, respects the dignity, privacy, and freedom of others, is courteous and polite to all, and is tolerant and accepting of differences. This means we should treat others the way we want to be treated, use good manners and not bad language, deal peacefully with disagreements, and be considerate of each other’s feelings. This is showing Respect.
Each month we will focus on one of the pillars as follows:
August – Pillar Overview
September – Trustworthiness
October – Respect
November – Responsibility
December – Fairness
January – Caring
February – Citizenship
March – Trustworthiness
April – Respect
May – Responsibility
